After a godawful tournament of predictions, it’s only right I would throw one more out there in hopes of redeeming myself.
UNC 84, Michigan State 67
The best match-up in this game is Roy Williams vs. Tom Izzo. Although I think Tom Izzo is the better coach, Williams has the better talent. In the early going, I see Izzo trying the full-court press to force UNC into a half-court offense. (There is nothing scarier than Ty Lawson on the run, after all.) The press might work at first, but UNC is the rare team that can kill you in transition and with outside shooting. This is going to be a big game for Danny Green. I’m putting him at 25 points with 5 3-pointers.
I suppose the other exciting match-up is Tyler Hansbrough against Goran Suton. Suton was pedestrian against UCONN’s bigs, Hasheem Thabeet and Stanley Robinson. While he has an inch on Hansbrough, I doubt he can match intensity. Knowing this is his final game and the sole purpose he came back for his senior season, this might be the last chance we get to see such an epic final performance. Expect Hansbrough to play like a man possessed. Sorry, Suton. Hasbrough’s getting 18 points and 15 boards, easy.
Now, back to my dilemma: DVR the NCAA title game or the Minnesota Twins season-opener?
