If there’s one thing we’ve seen this season, it’s the importance of having a point guard who can score and spread the ball. This is a league where everyone wants a Chris Paul/Deron Williams/Derrick Rose-type. You know, a guy who can give you 25 points and 10 assists every night.
That’s why 18-year-old Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio should draw some interest from NBA teams drafting near the top. Blake Griffin is the safe pick for No. 1 overall, but after that, Rubio will get strong consideration from the Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors. Among the most intriguing scenarios finds the New York Knicks picking near the No. 8 spot. Rubio is just 18, but he’s been playing European pro ball since he was 15. At about 6-4, 190 lbs., he has room to add muscle without losing speed. While scouts question his overall toughness, the consensus is he has exceptional vision and the ability to create in both the open court and set offense.
The film speaks for itself:
